It's OK to Cut It

This is that piece of fabric I mentioned earlier. The one that my friend, Jane, dyed?

I've hung on to this piece of fabric for probably over two years, afraid to cut into it. What if I started cutting it then decided I wanted it whole? What if I use a piece that would work better in another project? What if, what if, what IF?

I know you have fabric in your stash that you could "what if" yourself crazy over. So, go to your closet, pull it out, and cut into it.

I promise, you'll feel better that you used it!

I said 'hi' to Honu yesterday in Columbus and he says 'hi back' and 'miss you much'. Seriously, it was a beautiful show and Honu really held his own in the pictorial category. It was so much fun to be able to really see the details you put into the work. The eye was great, the zigzaggy stitches made him look reptilian, and I loved the satin stitching around the colors and the tiny turtles in the border. Beautiful!
I really enjoyed the show and would not have known about it if not for your mention of it on your site. It was the first quilt show I've attended. What fun!

This fabric is wonderful. I had purchased a special piece of hand dyed fabric from Caryl Bryer Fallert, in 1997 when I took a class from her here. I saved it for 4 1/2 years , fondeling & refolding it or pressing it every now & then, until I finally figured out where I wanted to use it. It became the main background for my 'Oh! to Dance With a Dolphin!' quilt & won me 2 Best of Shows, & a trip to Spain & a Husqvarna Designer 1 sewing machine. It was really special fabric, & I had to wait until it told me where it needed to be.

I think some fabrics really are truly special and are waiting for that perfect project that deserves it, but you're right--you DO have to use it!
