Maybe you've never seen one, but they make colapsible ladders for dogs to get out of vehicles. It folds up so you can slide it in the back of the truck along side his crate, then pull it out and it lays against the tailgate and the ground. It may just be that he's afraid, but it actually CAN be dangerous for a big dog to jump down from a high place because of their weight. They will do it if they have to, but they can damage their feet, legs, shoulders, back, etc. if they land wrong. I had a big dog, so I know. I tried to make him jump at first and not only was he terrified, one time his front legs crumpled and he did a face plant and got scraped up! After that I lifted him out every time, he was much happier for it. He knew it was coming so he would come out and just stand at the edge and I'd lift him down. Some time later I found out about the ladder and thought "that would have been a lot better!!" Just an idea, maybe you could check them out. Chaio' from Frankfurt!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
